The Radar tab shows a live reflectivity loop for your ZIP or city. Zoom out for a continental U.S. mosaic; zoom in for the nearest NEXRAD site product. Use it for situational awareness while planning—not as a warning system.
Zoomed out, WxYapper displays a national CONUS reflectivity mosaic from NOAA/NWS open radar products. Zoomed in, the map switches to the nearest WSR-88D (NEXRAD) site so you can see higher-detail returns around your area.
Pan the map to follow storms; the site product follows the map camera. Playback controls animate recent frames so you can see motion and trends.
On the regional (zoomed-in) view, nearby ASOS/METAR observation stations may appear with temperature and wind. Your location pin stays on the map for reference. These markers are omitted on the zoomed-out national view to keep the map readable.
Radar shows where precipitation and reflectivity are detected. It can lag, miss low-level features, or look different from what you feel on the ground. Coverage gaps and beam geometry also matter far from a radar site.
