About WxYapper

What WxYapper is

WxYapper is a weather application for the United States that delivers fast, readable forecasts tied to your city or ZIP code. Each location page includes current conditions, a plain-language forecast summary, hourly and daily detail, optional radar, and tools to plan around weather-sensitive events.

You can search by ZIP code, city name, or device location—no sign-up is required to view a forecast.

Who operates WxYapper

WxYapper is operated by Cardinalis Web Development. We build and maintain the website, mobile web experience, and related services including the Weather Yapper Alexa skill.

Data sources

Forecast and observation data come primarily from the National Weather Service (NWS), part of NOAA. That includes grid-based forecasts, current conditions, Area Forecast Discussions (AFD), and related products accessed through NWS APIs.

Radar imagery may be sourced from NWS and, where applicable, NOAA MRMS products. NWS discussion text is public-domain material; we display it alongside our own summary content for reference.

How summaries are produced

WxYapper's structured forecast summaries combine NWS Area Forecast Discussions with local grid forecast context (temperature, sky cover, and short-range trends). Summaries are generated once per NWS forecast office and shared across ZIP codes in that office's coverage area.

Automated processing turns that source material into plain-language briefings—overview, time-of-day periods, and forward-looking outlook sections. Location names are personalized when you view a forecast (for example, your city name is inserted at read time). Generated text is validated and checked against source data before it is shown.

Summaries are interpretive and meant to help you plan your day. They are not a replacement for official NWS forecasts, watches, warnings, or advisories.

Important limitations

Weather can change quickly. Do not rely on WxYapper alone for life-safety decisions. Always follow instructions from the National Weather Service, local emergency management, and other official sources during severe weather.
